Pieces Of Advice For Recent College Grads, Part I (YOU WILL BE OK)

Here at LNE Consulting, we know the struggle that comes with those post-grad blues. With graduation right around the corner, utilizing your degree and finding a job is imperative. Here are some helpful tips for landing a gig.

GET OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

how-to-expand-my-comfort-zone
It’s important to push the boundaries of your comfort zone, and when you do, it’s a big deal. Did you know that Tauheed Epps – excuse me, Two Chainz – played basketball at Alabama State?! Epps was adept at playing three positions: point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. He was a versatile player, but only played in 35 games and averaged 2.8 points per game. After two seasons of coming off the bench for the Hornets, Epps decided to go pro in something other than basketball: hip-hop.

Within the first two years of transitioning into the hip-hop industry, Two Chainz was discovered by Ludacris and signed to Def Jam Records. By leaving what he already knew and had grown comfortable in, he opened up many doors to new opportunities.
While your comfort zone provides a state of mental security that may reduce stress and anxiety, it also hinders you. Comfort kills productivity; without the sense of unease that comes with having expectations of yourself, we tend to take our foot off the brake and do the minimum required to get by. We lose the drive and ambition to do more and learn new things. But don’t just get by, thrive! The second you step out of your comfort zone, that is when the magic happens. Don’t be scared to try something new! Apply for jobs that aren’t in your field or jobs for which you may not be qualified but are passionate about.

PERFECT YOUR INTERVIEW SKILLS

The interview process is brutal. Expect it. Companies will receive hundreds of applications for just ONE position and more than likely, there will be 40-50 candidates that meet the qualifications just to interview. Sometimes the job search is about timing, sometimes it yields to experience, and other times it quite honestly requires just a bit of luck. The most important piece is to perfect your interview skills. You may not have control over getting an interview, but when you do, put your very best forward to control that outcome, remember, confidence is key. At LNE Consulting, we have a strategic process to find the candidates that stand out from the rest.
